What is an HOA

An HOA (Homeowners Association) is a legal entity created by a real estate developer to manage and maintain common areas and amenities in a residential community. When a person buys a home or condo in a community governed by an HOA, they become a member and are required to pay fees, abide by rules and regulations, and follow guidelines established by the HOA. The HOA is responsible for things like landscaping, snow removal, trash removal, and maintenance of communal areas like pools, parks, and playgrounds. They also enforce regulations on things like parking, exterior modifications, and noise levels. The goal of the HOA is to keep the community well-maintained and pleasant for all residents. However, some people view HOAs as restrictive and overly controlling, while others appreciate the organization and structure they provide.
